Bio

American artist Julia Purdy is an intuitive, abstract artist working in the SoWa Art + Design district in the South End of Boston, Massachusetts. She has studied at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the New Art Center in Newton, MA., and with the artist Margaret Gerding. She has a MS in Arts Administration from Boston University and a BA in English from Michigan State University. Prior to painting, she was a gallery teacher at the Harvard Art Museums and a volunteer at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Most recently, she participated in an invitational exhibition at the Attleboro Arts Museum. She has exhibited throughout the Boston and Cambridge area, including the Piano Craft Gallery, Boston City Hall Galleries, Galatea Fine Art, the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and the Kathryn Schultz Gallery. She has also participated in group exhibitions beyond Boston at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth, Mass., the Belmont Gallery of Art in Belmont, Mass., and the QArts Gallery in Quincy, Mass., among others. Her paintings can be found in collections across the United States. She is a member of the SoWa Artists Guild, Cambridge Art Association, and the United South End Artists.
